Just outside St Anne's Church, in the main square of Bishop Auckland, stood a red phone box. For years, it remained there: unlabelled, unused, and silent. Dead. In the very same place, also outside St Anne's Church, an advertising display board stood. Unlike the phone box, it was never silent nor unused. In juxtaposition, it showcased thoughtful visuals created by a local artist, Messages in Art, speaking of hope, and life and love. Alive. The piece before you draws inspiration from these observations, along with a heartfelt nudge to insert a single word... HEAVEN! “Heaven's Phone Box.” It is surely a place where prayers were spoken. And who knows what answers were given over the years? And what answers have yet to come?
