In the town of Seaham, County Durham, NE England, "Tommy" (officially named 1101 Eleven-O-One) sits in solemn rest—yet stands tall in remembrance. This powerful sculpture, created by artist Ray Lonsdale from cor-ten steel, honours those who sacrificed their lives in World War conflicts. Weighing 1.2 tonnes and standing 2.87 meters high, Tommy marks the Armistice at 11:01 on November 11, 1918. Affectionately named after the British Army's "common" soldier, Tommy Atkins, he remains a poignant tribute, and we show him here “In Thoughtful Repose.”
