HOLLY AND BERRIES Look back and history will show that Druids, Celtics and Romans each had their “holly traditions”, so the idea that hollies and berries are a “Christian thing” is not at all true. That said, what is true, is that nowadays Christian tradition considers holly as symbolising Jesus Christ and his suffering on the cross of His crucifixion - the red berries representing the blood that Jesus shed, and the sharp-pointed holly leaves representing the crown of thorns placed on His head before He died. And as Legend would have it … holly berries were once white, but the blood Christ shed for the sins of human-kind has stained the berries red, forever!
